In the last photo I posted you can clearly see the punch mark that was done with little pressure when it should have been more to complete the hole. This piece is not a fake nor any reason to fake a flat band to have no holes. Rick B
You may be right and you may be wrong, I'm just not sure. I can't tell if the hole is coming through from the camera lighting and flash or if it's a light stamp that didn't make it through. I guess you are right though, no reason to fake a part like that because it isn't worth anything anyhow. Neat find though.

#1, I did look at the photos.
#2, look at the first pic. The left side does look like a light stamping for sure, but the right side looks like it was either filled/welded shut, or it had a high spot or flaw, and was ground down slightly. Hence the horizontal marks.
You have to admit, the right foot doesn't really look like a light punch hit, it doesn't to me anyways. Not arguing with what is obviosly the truth of the matter, but that's the way I saw it.
Either way, like Rick mentioned earlier, there's no reason to fake a flat, stamped band anyways.
Keep 'em coming, Rick, I like a mystery.
