I was going to tell you about the one I have that never let me down but there's no brand name on it. All it says is quartz timer and made in taiwan. I might have bought it thru one of the shooting catalogs or from radio shack for all I know.

Twinson,
Try Champion's Choice. You may want to call them and see which one would be the most suitable to your needs.

Bought one at Walmart in the kitchen section for under $10.00, clipped the wire to the buzzer and has worked good for 3 years, the CC one I bought lasted less than a year.

I got a great one at Radio Shack. Be sure it uses AAA battery and not
a watch battery. Don't get one with the start/stop on the side, the first
person to pick it up will turn it off. This is important if it is used to time the line. About $14 year and a half ago.

If you use a wristwatch WITH a sweep second hand, all you have to do is for the rapids as an example, simply look at where the second hand is when the targets pop up. If in sitting rapid, the targets appear when the second hand is at 4 as it sweeps around, then obviously when it reaches the 4 again, 60 seconds are up. You can use the strap around your stool handle to secure the watch or place the watch near you on the mat for easy viewing. Get a watch with a white face and a black or red second hand so its easy to see quickly. No buttons to push to stop and go, no alarm buttons to stop. Nothing simpler than a $5 or $10 watch from Walmart and it lasts years. I usually check the time when I change magazines or a fast look when I am not sure of my timing during the string. I would also get a watch without the date on the face because the datebox is a distraction when looking fast. just a plain old watch with a white face and black sweep second hand.
