How About This Inland??
Now I'll admit, I know basically nil about the history of the M-1 Carbine, but I have to ask WHY anyone would try to use it as a sniper rifle?

Is this for real, or is this a bubba special?

I can't say either way on the real/bubba issue f/this carbine, but my opinion is that it's a perfect example of the old Texas saying:"Don't put a $100 saddle on a $50 horse". And, yes I know that the US military issued a sniper version of the carbine w/night-vision sights after WWII. The fact that they did doesn't make it a good idea, though. As usual, JMHO.

The mounting bracket is from the Inrared night sight Set #1, 20,000 volt, commonly and incorrectly called the M3. The rings are Redfield, as used n the M1903A3 springfield - the scope is either the M73B1 used on the M1903A3, or the commerical equivalnent Weaver 330C. I have seen a number of these, and although they could have been cobbled up by GI's in Korea from available parts, they are more likelly Bubba jobs. All the parts were available in the supply system, but this combination wasn't authorized. If it was done by a GI in disregard for regulations, it it still a Bubba job?
Ordnance experimented with a sniper carbine at Aberdeen in WWII, using the T3 prototype and the 330 scope. Two were built, both failed due to the empty cases bouncing off the flimsy 330 scope, Project terminated as a failure.

I have seen the mounting bars alone sell for $250-$400 each in the last year.

I'd be more interested in the rest of the serial# range. My card here shows the Serial Block...5,549,822 - 5,549,921 being of unknown maker.
This one could be in later part of the earlier block, which runs from 4,879,526 - 5,549,821 as Inland. But a barrel date of 9-44 seems late for that block.
It is a interesting one......

Its faked. That is the commercial 330c scope, not the military model. The only carbine model that the scope would have been mounted on for testing was the T3 carbine. It was never adopted by the military.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

It just looked odd to me, I couldn't understand why a carbine using basically a over sized pistol round would be used for a sniper platform.
