Need help identifying unusual Enfield rear sight
I bought the sight several years ago with the idea of mounting it on a No.4 Mk2. However, I could never figure out how to attach it. I'm not even sure it is for a No.4. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. TIA --RBruce

This is off a Parker Hale sniper if i remember correctly, won't fit the No4 without modifications, like removing this sight from the plate then drilling out the rear sight pin axis holes on the rifle and a hole on the side of the receiver for the clicker ball and spring.

It is .22 sight. As said earlier, the No 4 would have to be modified to accept it. You would have to drill out the mounting holes and drill another hole for the retaining spring.

I recall someone who had a similar sight, but the slide was installed in a standard Mk.I leaf to fit on a No.4 without modification. Slide may've been different, tho'.

It is a No4 rifle sight modified for use on the 7.62mm Cadet target rifle (called the L81 A1) based on the Mauser 98 action. It was all done on the cheap, hence the sight. It was said that this sight could be used as a target sight on the 7.62mm L81 if it was read as metres. That was pure horse manure!
Those in the know at the time moved hell and high water to squash the rifle, suggesting, quite rightly that the Cadet Forces would be better off using the hundreds of under used L39's stuck in Ordnance for years and years. After all, they were still using the very similar No4's. But no, the Cadet executive knew best................. As they did with the crap L98 single shot bolt action, straight pull SA80. What a sack of manure that was. That, incidentally, is now being replaced, not before time, with a self loading (but NON automatic version) version of the SA80
Next question..................

Hmmmm? Would have been nice to have some detailed explanation for the potty mouth opinions. Some of us are not as well educated in this subject as others.

RBruce,
I can understand Mr. Laidler perfectly. Being on the receiving end of the "work" of bureaucrats, particularly those allegedly involved in Defence, tends to colour your thinking and language somewhat.
