Ciener M16 conversions?

Does anyone have any experience with the .22 LR conversion for a M16A2? I'm thinking about buying one.

yes , i like mine , so well in fact i got one for each of my kids rifles as well , cheap plinking fun ,

my dedicated 22 cal upper is more accurate when that is critical

I've been using an air force model 22 subcal in my AR's for over 20 years. They are dang fun , but I don't use any A2 barrels ( no 1-7 or compromise 1-9 twists ).
The Ceiner kit is excellent too , and with Black Dog making good quality high cap mags for it - it's a blast !.

There are a couple of websites where folks allege that they ordered from Ciener, who just held their money & refused to send their orders. Can't verify that, though. I guess you could order through a retailer, but getting parts or service could be a problem in future.

Several retailers are selling the CMMG conversion. I haven't heard any reports on that unit, but I'm thinking of taking a chance.

CMMG units are the same as Ciener & they work good

Use mine for highpower practice at 50 and 100 yards. Not as accurate as a dedicated but who has 1100 sitting around for one these days. It will hold the 10 ring of a reduced target at 100 so practice is worthwhile.

I have not had any dealings with Ciener over AR conversions - of course, after my dealings with him regarding subcaliber kits for the BHP, I'm not likely to.

Where do I start? He was told specifically not to send faxes to my wife's workplace (anti-gun folks) - he did anyways... twice. He sent the wrong kit - but I still got to pay the return shipping to him and the shipping for the proper kits. None of the kits we purchased (3) would reliably cycle any of four BHP's they were tested in - two of which were almost NIB. Refuses to answer his phone. His idea of "service" is that if his kits don't work, then your firearm must be a piece of junk and you need to send it to him and allow him to modify it because it cannot POSSIBLY be his product.

We finally saw the writing on the wall, gave up on him, and paid competent smiths to fix his workmanship. Oddly, after they'd figured out what was wrong with the kits as they came from him, they seemed to work in ALL the BHPs we installed them on... I guess those pistols weren't in such bad shape after all. Maybe FN does know more bout making BHPs than Ciener knows about making reliable BHP conversions...

Anyways, if you're looking for a conversion for a BHP, Ciener pretty much has you by the short and curlies. If you're looking for a conversion for something else, after my experience I'd strongly suggest you maybe look at other offerings.

Don't expect anything resembling customer service. In nearly 50 years of shooting, buying gun stuff, reloading equipment, etc I have never dealt with an individual or company that was anywhere near as bad as Ciener.

Whatever you choose, however, you pays your money and takes your chances.

The kit I used for years was an Achisson. It worked flawlessley in any AR I tried. Although ALL the reports say don't use them in the tight twist barrels,9,7 inch twist I had NO problem with the service rifle function or accuracy. Of course that was years before I knew you couldn't do that.

Have one from CMMG, and it's great. The Black Dog mags work perfect. Don't buy from JAC, 'cause his customer service, isn't.
After break-in, the CMMG kit now runs 100%. The rate of fire is amazing.
Sounds like a buzz gun (m11, 9mm). Dumps a 27 rnd. mag in just over two seconds.
I would suggest getting a dedicated upper, because you will use the fun-toy often, and it will deposit a lead ring just in front of the insert. You will need to get rid of the lead before transitioning to 5.56mm, or you risk a catastrophic disassembly.
All-in-all, a wise investment, considering the price of ammo since the coronation of the Purple-lipped Potentate.
