Patrick, i need your help on a 1871/84

Hello Patrick,

i have a question to the frontsling swivel band. Is the screw on the left or on the right side of the rifle ? And is it correct, that if you want to tighten the screw, you must turn it to the left? Normaly you have to turn metric screws to the right to tighten it. Today we used loads with TrailBoss powder witch worked great with 350 grs H&N bullets. 10 shots diameter at 100 metres with 56mm. Thank you in advance.

Yes Gunner, it really is like that!

The screw head must be on the RIGHT of the barrel. The screw has a normal right-hand thread, but the non-head end has a fixed retaining ring. The hole in the band is free, and the hole in the band next to the head is threaded. In other words, the reverse of the usual clamp arrangement.

This unusual design was implemented so that the screw could not be totally removed and maybe lost. As a result, the screw head must be turned clockwise to loosen the band.

If you turn the head anti-clockwise, that will tighten the band. If you force it, you will either strip the thread or the retaining ring.

Your shooting results are outstanding. I must try the H&N myself!

Thank you Patrick for your quick answer. The Rifle is in a good condition witha shiny bore. So for the H&N bullets we had them(excuses to all english speakers) "Herunterkalibriert" and loadet with 16grs of TrailBoss. Next time we send a few of them to the " Beschussamt " to proof the chamber pressure. If you are interested on the datas, please send me a mail. Thank you again for your help.
