It is a rifle that is currently on an auction. It has a C stock without drawing number BUT has the SN stamped into the butt between the lower sling swivel and the pistol grip. The SN is also etched onto the top of the bolt. It appears well done. There is no drawing # on the hand guard. There is a Star Gauge symbol at 6 o"clock on the barrel crown and it has a NM butt plate. I seek info for the purpose of maybe trying to acquire this rifle.

It is listed in the Summary of DCM Rifle Sales, 1922 - 1942 as an A1NM. You can get the information from SRS on the rifle, if it is worth acquiring.

How does the drill and tap for the Lyman sight affect price? Original to the rifle or added down the line?

I am reading the Poyner book on the 1903 Springfield.....on pg 38 he writes: "Between 5800-6800 National Match rifles were sold through the DCM Program before the entry of the US in WWII.Many DCM rifles has Lyman 48B or C receiver sights installed.Springfield Armory did not install these sights on National Match rifles used in National Match competitionas the rules required that the rifle's orignial service sights be used but they could be used in NRA and other competitions. They (Springfield) would on request install them on NAtional Match rifles intended for civilian sale through the DCM program."

Thus it appears that the holes in the receiver on this rifle may be original to the rifle from the DCM.
