Questions on a WRA 5,673,xxx
Have any original WRA carbines been documented in the 5,673,xxx range with a Hi-Wood type II stock?
Adj Type II rear sight?
With it being near the transitional point in Winchesters production, I'd expect to see a Lo-wood stock.
Also a possible flip rear sight, but could see where the use of a Adj rear sight could be possible.
Help appreciated,
TIA

Charlie,
I've got Winchester #56687xx which I believe to be original. It has a type 2 barrel band, type 2 rear sight, and a low wood stock. Hope that helps.

SJB,
Very nice looking carbine.
Thanks for the fix !!
I'm not near as shaking as I was earlier.
I'm looking into how high a serial numbered WRA would or could be expected to be found with a Flip sight installed.
At 5,673,xxx I'd think it was possible...but lean more towards it having a Adj rear sight when issued.
This is probably covered in the older CC Newsletters, but as of yet I haven't taken the time to order them.
My 5,573,xxx has flip.
My 5,811,xxx has Adj rear sight....H in the shield.
Both sitting in lo-wood stocks.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks,

My son Jeff's 5,725,XXX Winchester has a type II milled rear sight and type II band. Oh, and a real "EW" safety!

Dammit, Bill, you know the rules... if you don't have pics it don't exist!!!
But seriously ...
Charlie, I am curious as to what new data and history will be re-discovered with the Bavarian and Austrian carbines. Since they seemed to have escaped alot of the post-war rebuilds (and even during-war updates since they were not pulled from the field), they may hold answers to alot of the "as issued" questions. I am actually waiting until the 1st of the year to join the carbine club in hopes that info from these Bavarian returns will have been digested.

Charlie,
Mine is SN 5687XXX with a low wood and a flip sight. I have not found anything on the rifle that would indicate it is not original. As a matter of fact I posted a number of pictures on the Jouster
forum for verification. DonH (I think that is his alias) has one with an adjustable sight.

WOW,
Just this post has pulled out some beautiful carbines.......Congrats and Thanks to all.
I feel pretty confident that a WRA serial # 5,673,xxx could have had a flip as original. I'm sure there was a mix as the Adj rear sights were becoming available.
But would expect to find it with a Lo-wood stock.
Just seems to late for a Oval Hi-wood stock.
Thanks Guys.......
Appreciate your help as always

Nice save !!
Good picture showing the Winchester Vice type scars on the top left side of the receiver.
I've run across a few stocks with the slingwells filled like that also.
One was still a Hi-wood, with both the I cut and slingwell filled with brown painted bondo (?)
Sadly.......they had roughed up the well to get a bite with the filler.
Wrecked any markings that may have been there.
From the taper of the underside of the barrel channel...I could only guess it was a RSG stock.
Thanks Bill,
Charlie
