Thanks for the replies. I went to the CMPicon site and saw it's an Austrian return gun. All the carbines I've seen at gun shows were the gray/green park and I thought the color was odd. Is it normal that the last 4 of the serial no. is stamped all over the place? I thought they just put the Mfg. stamp on the wood and other other parts. The wood has no "P" or inspection stamps but has the serial no. A little BLOicon on the stock is ok? Got a scuff in the finish.Hmmmm. Just never seen Uncle Sam rebuild anything and keep the numbers matching.
I've been to the CMP site before when I got a Mint M44 US property .22 Mossberg when they were cheep and plentiful. Shoulda' bought a truck load!Gott'a love them!
Sorry for all the Q's, hope to have some A's soon.
Will try to post pics when I find my camera. It's a sharp looking rifle.

FTD1165 & Gunner thanks! Like a dummy I posted the last reply before following that link. Yep, it has a Knox. Tn stamp! Lower Aus. issue. Black oxide finish correct, varnished stock. Gonna' wipe it down with linspeed to get rid of a few scuffs. Is this a "rare bird" or is it less wanted because it's an imported rifle? Dad always found one off guns and I guess this is. It's a family gun(passed down to me).
It's weird,I've been to Lower Austriaicon. Salzburg. Loved it! Stationed in Germanyicon twice and grew up in Tn. near Knoxville! 6 degrees of seperation!!!!! creepy
