Type 44 Cavalry rifle
Picked up an absolutely beautiful First variation Type 44 Cavalry rifle that but for a little wear on the buttplate is Mint at a gunshow Saturday.
Anyone have any idea on production numbers for the Tokyo built 1st variation?
Thanks in advance...

Hang on, book is at the house. Will try to remember to look it up. Someone else will probably get you an answer before I do, though.

Sorry for the delay.
From "Military Rifles of Japan" 5th ed 7th printing (2001). by Fred Honeycutt, Jr. (ISBN 0-9623208-7-0)
The highest reported number was 55061. It appears that production was moved at this point to Kokura, around 1929.
Nice book to have if you intend to play w/ these rifles!
