1903-a3 receiver search
After seeing a Gibbs 03-a4 I got a bad itch to build my own 03-a4gery. I would like to start with a barreled action or just a receiver depending on condition of barrel. I do not want a drill receiver or nat ord. I would also like to find a receiver already drilled and tapped. It seems that most sporters already drilled and tapped have been blued and original a4's were parked, right? What are my best options for finding a receiver for my project?

Cut-ups appear at most gunshows. Start looking at the big shows.

If you are going to make a 04 you could also use a 03 receiver. As that you are going to place a scope on it the rear sight does not matter. Also 03 redfield bases are less expensive and are not as hard to find.

Mike,
You might try a WTB in the 'Classifieds Forum' - (Couldn't hurt to try)

It might be cheaper in the long run to buy a real A4. I have built many rifles, and the one glaring consistency is that a pieced together rifle, regardless of quality, is much more expensive than just buying a real one. It is akin to saving money by buying a Corvette one piece at a time.
Good luck either way.

Good point Jim.
Plus an authentic A4 will keep it's value.
