krag help

can some one tell me what i have. my wife bought me this rifle many years ago. it was sporterized and i put it away with not much more thought. i did wonder if the nra might have sold them this way?
It has a rear lyman no drill peep sight,and a ramp type front that looks like it slipped over the front. i measured the inside of the barrel its 22 inches.there are 3 holes in the butt stock cleaning kit housing for the cleaning rods. serial number starts at 1804. receiver says springfield armory model 1898
any help would be apprecieated thanks

The front sights on the DCM carbines were made from 1903 springfield sights. If this rifle has a ramp, it is likely not from the DCM but a later sporter by a gunsmith. CAB

thanks for the info only paid 100.00 didn't expect to much. It apperantly has a carbine stock on it. I was wondering if it was orginally a carbine or a cut down service rifle? I think cut down.

I wasn't aware Lyman made a no drill sight for the Krag, Redfield and Pacific, yes, but not Lyman.

i'm not well versed in these rifles but the peep sight does say lyman

Then it's probably been drilled and tapped for it. I like any of the peeps that fit back on the receiver, and with my eyes, the bigger the hole the better!

I appreciate the info andiarisaka. have several other weapons to ceck out. a 1903a3 i think is arsnel new or a reman. and never reissued. 3 jap rifles and a couple of mausers. I bought old military guns years ago when they were cheap,and not much intrest in them.

Whether it's a cut down rifle stock, or a carbine stock depends on if the band is retained by a pin (rifle) or a spring (carbine). Wish I would find one for $100. It'll probably surprise you shooting-wise. Mine shoot as good as any modern gun.

haven't shot it once in nearly 20 yrs. probably never will. I even got 19 rounds of winchester peters sill in original box. bought just because always wanted one. realy apprecieated wife buing it for me but big disappointment
when i seen it wasn't origanal as advertised.
