I agree that adjustable sights are best for shooting. With my Underwood, different ammos have different impacts. Remington JSP is one to two clicks off to the side of Lake City, etc. When I had the original Winchester with the flip sight that I let get away in the early 80s, all I had was GI ammo at the time, and the flip was perfectly regulated for that. It would have been a pain to drift it for other ammo.
I will probably leave the adjustable on my CMP
Inland I am getting, too. I thought of restoring it, but I have probably decided against it. I'll think I will leave it un-messed with as it came from the government.
As was said earlier in another thread, CMP ARE correct in their own right. They were arsenal upgraded with improvements like round bolts, bayonet lugs, and adjustable sights (which were planned from the beginning, but not implemented to get the carbine into production faster, as I understand it). These are correct for Korea and Vietnam era.

Well I guess when I get the cash around I'll buy a replacement sight and try to do it myself. I'd hate to destroy my $600 purchase but you guys make it sound like it's not too difficult if I just take my time and do it right, haha!
I bought some ammo today, 50 rounds for $23 which doesn't seem like too bad of a deal. I won't get to shoot it for another week though until finals are done! Oh well, I'm so excited to shot it off though. Thanks for all the help so far guys, I really appreciate it!

At worse, if you don't want to do it yourself, you can send it to the likes of Orion 7 and or others. Who may even have the sight.
Not a bad price for the ammo now adays....

You can get GI adjustables (Type II milled are the best, IMHO) for $20 to $30 on EBAY with shipping thrown in. The type II has an adjustable index plate on the rear, so you can line it up to set your center.
