Can you check M85 #00289F? It might be a bitser but curious to see if it shows up on the list.

I was second to the last bidder. That 25% buyers premium is always a tough one to swallow. I imagine the sellers fee is anywhere from 15-25% as well They as much said it was probably a bitser, so I decided to wait for a piece with some provenance. It certainly looks the part.
Thanks for the information and for checking on these when they come up. I appreciate it.

No problem Brian, from the pictures it really did look the part.
The records are unfortunately not complete, they were a labour of love to compile digitally by Gil from surviving factory documentation.
Had Gil and a handful of others not acted so decisively with historical preservation in mind, all the records would have been destroyed and lost forever.

Regarding the original rifle in this thread, the fact that Cowan's specifically mentions the gun is void of a British Firing Proof and most likely assembled from leftover parts could indeed answer as to why it isn't in the Parker-Hale books.
Addendum: Speaking of M85 in auctions, any results on 00248F? It just got listed at Rock Island Auction: https://www.rockislandauction.com/de...fle-with-scope . Quite a high estimate.

Very high estimate considering the scope isn't worth much. Dang! I'm saving up to buy a new truck as a retirement gift to myself next year and you guys keep tempting me with these interesting and collectible rifles. LOL! (Stay strong Sapper, stay strong!)
