Trilux (SUIT) update

Regarding a spring i was after for my Trilux scope, i tracked one down and the sight now sits on the mount i have for my AR15.
I was offered 4 for a reasonable price so i got them, pics below show my original on the mount , and also the 4 i picked up, one i kept for spares, sold one for £95 and have 2 left i was going to put these on the WTS part of the forum, or on ebay.
They do need a bit of TLC, lens are ok just the paintwork and some of them have had the rubber eye piece glued, plus the tritrium vials have been removed possibley by Bubba, small part of the casing that held the circ clip in damaged see pics compared with my original one.

I have a Trilux (SUIT) scope on one of my LIAI's and am not quite sure if it is mounted securely enough on the rifle to get anything in the way of repeatable accuracy. I am used to scopes being mounted firmly on the receiver, so this mousetrap-spring arrangement on the Trilux doesn't look to be a very robust arrangement. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. I also have the Trilux manual, but it is not of much help.

There is a bit of a knack to fitting the sight to the cover and you're right ....., it will jump off on the first shot if it's not fitted securely - much to the amusement of everyone else on the firing point. It's not tyhe ssort of thing you can explain. It's a pictorial thing

Notice by your photo that three of the four have the chipped area where the tritium vial sets in. Was this possibly a "dewat" practice that someone dictated before release to the public. I have seen Suits offered on GunBroker with that same problem, but for the most part, the Suits I have seen in the U.S. are not damaged in that way.

Do you have a source for "circlips"?

I was lucky enough to find one in very good condition. I was told that the distance cam was not correct for the 5.56 bullet but at the range the scope did very well at close and long range. While not the best scope for the M16 type rifle it works well and draws fellow shooters to see just what it is sitting on the AR.

That's one of those internet myths that just refuses to die.

There is exactly one cam for the Trilux SUIT. The same cam is used for the 7.62mm, the 5.56mm & the 84mm AT Carl Gustav round.
The zero markings are different though to allow for the differing trajectories. Your Izzy sight is marked for 250 & 450 METERS (Izzy 5.56mm) & the Commonwealth ones in 7.62mm were marked in 300 & 500 YARDS.

Some time back I did a comprehensive test of the cams in both sights & swapped both cams & repeated the test they were identical (which explains why no-one could ever find a difference in the measurements of the various cams as well.)

You're correct Fugwit. There is only one cam lever on the SUIT and if you zero it in at X Yards or Metres on any weapon, then by default and the laws of physics, then when you flick it over to the high (- or low, depending on your understanding of the inverted graticle but always remembering the first rule of the instrument shop....., always treat graticles as foresights) reading, then at some point along the bullet trajectory, it WILL cross the line of sight and this is the point of the second accurate reading.

Just one point though Fucwit............ WOMBAT anti-tank! I can't see any reference in out tech library to using a SUIT sight on the 120mm Wombat. Not even in the open sight/off the LandRover role. But the same optical principle will still apply

The SUIT was originally designed with mounts for use with the L1A1/FAL Rifle, G3 Rifle, M16 Rifle, L7 GPMG, 84mm AT Carl Gustav. As per AVIMO's 1976 Handbook

I had never heard there was a G3 mount. Any pictures of that floating around?
