New Carbine Today....

The Saginaw SG 3,403,022 I bought came in today. It has a SG receiver with the SG stamp on the left side of the receiver and the wide rear tang. Rear sight is J.A.O. with number.
Barrel is a no date IBM with a tiny P proof stamp. SI-B type II frt sight and AI bayo band. Looks as though the sight was removed possibly just the one time to install the bayo band. I expected the barrel to be a replacement.....but I can't see any scars or signs of it being swapped. Might it be possible.......that a SG 3,403,022 came with a no date IBM barrel? Clean, very nice bore... Everything else black and grimey, but no rust or pitting anywhere. All parts are WWII time frame. No WWII universal replacement parts. I'm leaving early in the morning to help my son move. So for now I just took pictures of the trigger housing and op slide.
Seller thought the TH was a SG... it's a type II NPM marked N 9. Slide is also ( I THINK ) a Type II NPM marked N 9,,,unless I'm reading it wrong and it's actually a N 6. Trigger Type II Winchester with the inverted W. Sear Type II with the ground hole marked IX (or XI ). Hammer Type III H.I. Mag catch Type III with M on the tab and W.I. on the frt tooth.
Early Checkered Type I push Safety.
I need help on this one......Is it Winchester or Inland?
I'll get pictures around of the barrel and receiver later when I get back. Bolt was a SG flat. Very nice Stock, WRA over GHD with CC Lo-wood. Hand guard 4 rivet OI.
Haven't pulled bolt apart or pulled the recoil plate. Also came with a late MRT marked D tip sling, unmarked oiler and very nice ISG 15rd mag.

Main Question is what type of safety is this?
Also is the slide a N9 or N6 ?

Dammit Charlie, thats not fair!!!! I know, I will invoke rule 38.a.(1).(c) of carbine collecting... just for that, you lose 2 carbines and 5 NPM stocks! Pack them up and ship them within three days or I am telling your wife that you have 10 more carbines coming before Thanksgiving!

Charlie, Nice carbine but sorry to say the barrel is a replacement. SG made their own and didn't use any of the free issue program barrels till they received some when S'G' ended their production in January 1944. The safety is a Winchester. Good find.

Can someone explain rule 38.a.(1).(c) of carbine collecting...? I want to make sure that I don't violate it. Does this refer to the number of carbines one can own? Please explain. --TIC

Rule 38.a.(1).(c). states that you will not own, purchase, hold or borrow more carbines of a single receiver manufacturer than your assigned collecting team members located within 6 adjancent multi-state area.

Seriously, there is no rule 38.a.(1).(c). That is me being my totally obnoxious and jealous self cause Charlie has a new carbine and I don't. And to top it all off, if you give Charlie 10 days and some warm BLO, it will also be a new carbine with a great looking stock!


But this is Charlie's thread to celebrate his new carbine. Charlie, I really like that safety. The only ones I have actually seen I do believe to be humped. I'm patiently awaiting more pics when you get back.


RBruce, please don't take anything I say seriously unless its accompanied by the word "seriously".

And to let you know, there are only three rules to carbine collecting and are all unwritten. They are:

1) Don't hump or forge parts/stocks;

2) Always disclose the personal preference modifications you make when showing and selling;

3) Never, and I mean NEVER let your wife know exactly how many carbines you have locked in your safe (to her they all look alike and you officially only have "just two").

OK, so keep this secret. I have 1942 , 1943, 1944, and 1945 Inlands - all correct with appropriate fighting knives/bayonets. Plus, a six digit Inland M1A1 with late WWII or Korean conflict modifications. I don't know if this violates the rule, since I don't know anyone close by with a similar collection. Did you get "TIC"?
