how baddly destroyed does and action have to be before you rite it off???

Some year ago i was working with a dude who's name shall remain annon for now. He had purchased a brand new no4 from a gun shop for the princly sum of $250, now this 303 was in mint condition and still in the wrapper with grease (these were the ones Simon lawrence had sourced in Ireland). Still the rifle was good when cleaned and the first few shots were put through her to great delight. Now this is where the story turns to horror and your flesh will crawl, When religion was found and the thought of firing a firearm was against all things of his belief, which we all have the rite to. Instead of offering the rifle up to a good home he decided to give it a viking funeral. After picking my jaw up off the ground i atleast had the possible forsite to ask if i could have the rusted and burnt remains, which have lived in my shed for some years.
so the million dollar question is
A. can the rust be removed
B. would the action be okay if i could get it moving again
C. should i even bother

If its been in a fire it will probably be warped and the hardening will be destroyed. It sounds like an accident waiting to happen - I suggest "dont do it".

yep thats what i was sus on, if i could get the dang thing cleaned up would probably make a nice wall hanger.

Take it to the work shop put it in the drop saw, cut it into small pieces place them in the bin walk out without looking back.

Yep - your nice shiney wallhanger could end up in 'other hands' sometime in the future, they wont know its history and will probably load it up, fire it and Woooops !!! - if you dont want to cut it up, at least drill thu 'the action and barrel

Ordnance used to put any fire damaged rifles/weapons into a cage and when there was a requirement, they'd be the first to be turned in to DP. You couldn't tell, but but you KNEW! And you knew NEVER to fire one

You will have to reder the action unshootable. How many threads have we seen asking if this DP can be restored? They just change the barrel and go on. Cut through at the locking lugs.

If it is registered let the police or a gunsmith destroy it so it comes off the register.

If i was going to turn it into a wall hanger it would be fully inocuated where as you couldnt get the damn thing to work again not to mention it would be a bit hard getting it to shoot straight when shes attached to a peice of timber, Oh yes i am only to aware of what some people try to pass off as a shooter when all there good for is tomato stakes or a plaque.

I hate to see any firearm destroyed. Clean the thing up weld the bolt and cut the action from the bottom so you can't see it . Then sell it to some one who want a nice looking wall hanger.
