    difference in boxes, sniper/vickers

Just a question for you learned gentlemen, what is the difference between the 303 sniper transit case and a vickers/lewis transit case apart from the obvious inserts which would be different of course. Have my eye on one at the moment and hoping to get for the right price.

The Vickers boxes I've got have parts and pieces to fit the Lewis. I think that is what Peter was saying. They're the same box. ('cept one of mine has a Maxim in it).

I think you've (or I have....) misread it Limpet........ The Vickers/Lewis is totally different to the No4T chest. I think that the only similarity is in the khaki colour

Vickers/Lewis box is much larger (and heavier) than the No4 sniper box. Some BREN boxes were converted to No4 boxes but they were also bigger!

Interesting. In one of my Vickers boxes, it has a wooden support tied in with a string that say "FOR LEWIS GUN" or some such. It is buried in the garage, but I'll see if I can find a picture of it.

The boxes for the Lithgowicon snipers are the same size as the Bren box, but they were for storage, two rifles to a box.

So if i was to pick up a vickers/lewis box for a good price would it be able to be converted for a no111 sniper box with the correct inserts or am i barking up the wrong tree, or just barking mad.

fergs, short of having all the dimensions of the box you are looking at, I can't honestly say for sure. I don't have any of the other boxes mentioned, so nothing to compare with, sorry.

Just spotted your pics... size could be about right... even if it's only set up in your loungeroom as a coffee table, it's a good box for the money!
