    A decent rifle mount

I bumped into this pic today, its on rifleman.org.uk, and probably a few folks have seen it already. I was interested because I've long been interested in creating a rigid firing frame but haven't seen how its previously been done to know how strong it has to be.
Has anyone here built such a frame/cradle and have any suggestions?

Thanks. Its interesting to see the roller on top of the butt stock, it implies that they expect the rifle to rise up, and that this whole mount is not 100% rigid. Perhaps they're holding it down in a simulation of a persons hand hold.

Come along to the Antique Arms meeting on Wednesday, the owner is most likely to be there. He has displayed it at a couple of our past gunshows.

We've got a couple of these at work............ including a simpler variation of what was called The Enfield Rest.

You ought to pack your bags, come over and take a look-see. The rest removes all of the human errors and just leaves the natural tendencies of the rifle. You could build your own using a rigid/solid frame that would allow the butt/rifle to recoil on a shock absorber. If we didn't have them, I'd say that something similar was a piece of cake to make

The obvious catch to Peter's offer, Roger, is that his missus is over here and he's batching.
He's probably hoping you are a good cook.

I'm sure that we had one of these Enfield rests mounted on a concrete block in the wooden firing point/hut on the old Armourrers test range at the Ordnance Depot at Ngaruawahia. I have a photo of me and Lance Maxwell shooting a couple of Stens down the range The old range and hut was over the road from the camp and was closed when the new enclosed steel butt/catcher No Danger Area range behind the main workshop was opened
