    Heartbreak.

Someone had a sporterized no.4 with scope so I went to look at it. Mount and scope came with it. Guy said it had a perfect bore. One glance and my heart sank. Sporterized included chopping original barrel off and yes , there to the buttsocket was. 'TR' and a T on the side of the receiver, scope was mounted on original pads but was a sporty type from the 1960's. Got it anyway but now have a fine deer rifle

Click on the little blue info button next to the thanks, and it gives you an Idea were they are.

You're right, it gives an 'IDEA', certainly not accurate.
My location is Scone, however using your principle, it puts me in Sydney, not very accurate by any means.

Towns or City's aren't the issue, but like you said the biggest problem is what COUNTRY someone is in as that has the biggest effect on what to say in a reply in this very international community.

You're nearly right Newcastle....... There IS a Newecastle in Englandicon that was named after a similarly named place in Oz. The same as Abingdon in England, named after the very same place in the USofA

I'm from Newcastle, Englandicon home of beer and football. Should have been clearer on this rifle. Original barrel was hacksawed just behind the front sight and was recrowned. Only sight is the scope.not a refurbishment candidate.

You could do it Newcastle; I've rebuilt a fair few 4T's from the receiver upwards. But, you've got to be prepared to rebarrel; which means either having the kit or having access to someone who can. You could almost do with having a cheap standard No4 to cannibalise & access to a gunsmith who knows his Enfields. Is it definitely not a viable option? Seems such a pity to leave it as it is......
