.300 AAC Blackout (7.62x34mm) AR15 vs. 7.92x33 STG44

I was browsing a web page when I realized that the 125 grain .300 Blackout loading is virtually identical to the WWII vintage STG44 in 7.92x33mm. I always wanted a STG44, so I guess I will be happy with my .300 Blackout M4!

So far, I remain unmoved by the concept, except as a suppressed weapon platform. And I'm not sure that I wouldn't prefer a suppressed .45 ACP rifle.

I like it! The 125 grain suoer-sonic loading surpasses the 5.56 from the same length barrel under 100 yards. The mistake most people make is to compare the .300 blackout from a 16" barrel (standard) 2400 fps/1471 ft lbs, at muzzle with the ballistics of the 5.56 from the 20" barrel used to compile 5.56 stats. When you compare it with a similar 5.56 from a 16 inch barrel (55 grain at 3100 fps/ 1174 ft lbs at muzzle. It has more stability through brush and barriers than the 5.56.

If you ever pick up a genuine StG 44, you might notice something interesting: the WEIGHT.

Fairly stable shooting platform, though I have so far never gone "rock and roll" with an original one.

The combination of a low-recoil cartridge in a straigh-line chassis is the "winning combination" for Mr. Stoner's little rifle.

As someone who once had several genuine 7,62 x 51 AR-10s of various models, I appreciated the ergonomics and engineering quite a lot, especially in the "minimalist" early variants.

Any "field reports / comparisons" for the "full-house" package of the FG-42?

Its main attribute is that it is so easily adaptable to the AR platform. A simple barrel change is all that's needed. As a supersonic platform, you have the advantage over the 7.62X39 of better and a larger choice of projectiles. As a subsonic platform, you have the advantage of being able to have the same ballistics as the 308 Win with bullets up to 220gr as well as the ability to switch from supers to subs with just a mag change. And while I still lust for a Delisle myself, an integrally suppressed 300 offers energy figures at 100 yds that equal/exceed the 45 ACP at the muzzle, making the 300 a great choice for wild boar in those states infested with them.
I like it enough to have both an integrally suppressed AR and a CZ bolt gun in the caliber. As the commercial many years ago used to say, "Try it, you'll like it."

I've been trying it vicariously. A friend has had one with a QD suppressor for some time. And that CZ of yours looks suspiciously familiar, but it could be just similar to some that have been built here. I'm less enthusiastic the more I get exposure...but the same goes for 7,62x39 now that it costs real money to shoot. What seems strange to me is that nobody's seriously tried to adapt the .30 Carbine to the AR platform. Maybe make the OAL so long the hotrodded modernized ammo won't fit the old M1 (.30C Thumper)...Or turn it sideways and jam 40-50 rounds into a P90 type PDW...

intersting post, iv been looking into the .300 blackout build, i want a small compact easy to use rifle, to shoot pigs, but still heavy enough for deer or antelope..dont care about subsonic, but like the 30/30 specs that i can get with 125Grn bullets.

looking at barrels, the original 30/30 had a 1 and 15 twist made for the 150 to 170 grn round nose bullets, 30-06 has a 1-10. found a company that offers a nice stainless barrel in 1 -8.5 twist....anyone have experiance with this?? what type of accuracy are you getting, and what pet loads work good for 150 to 250 yards???

So, the 125 bullet in .300 blackout is similar to the German round?
And the 6.8 is similar to the British 7mm round they wanted to produce
After WWII.
The 7.62 got in for NATO when the U.S. backed it.

I had not shot the blackout past 100, and that was just at pinecones. I used Sierra Matchking 125 OT (300 BLK specific). I liked it, but could not afford to reload for it, and correct bullets were tough to find at any price. If i were rich, I would have kept it. As it is with hours cut, I dropped back to 5.56 which I can reload 3 rounds for every 300 BLK round.
