    Possible explosive?

    Hey,

I just joined this forum as my friend is clearing out his house in Finlandicon and found a object of some interest, I know he has found some other items in the past linked to the winter war in Finland 1939-44. Most recent of note it a tank shell and now this strange object.. The police and local army were contacted and detonated the tank shell.

Any information on this piece would be helpful.

Will update post in future is we find more items of interest.

    Thanks for you time.

There is nothing. Both sides are identical.

This is the sort of thing I was thinking of, a Russianicon OZM 4. This one has the firing device fitted. It may not be a AP mine at all but it just looks to similar.

It looks like a generic Anti Personnel mine but it could be just a blow lamp type thing. The colour is very much like Deep Saxe Blue which denotes Practice in NATO use however practice doesn't mean it's inert as it could have a spotting charge or similar.

I'd be wary of it to be honest.

I'll have a look in my books.

I agree it does look similar. Its made of a thick metal, is that normal for mines? I would think a thinner material as to break into shrapnel easier? I'll share this information with my friend and sure he will be contacting the army again. Thanks for taking the time.

I don't think it's a mine. No, they aren't that thick, matter of fact most aren't much at all. What's the bottom like? It looks like it belongs under the hood of a vehicle.

Looks more like part of a "vintage" Primus gas cooker.

Being blue COULD mean that it is an "inert" training device (or a portable stove).

But I would not be “lighting it up” just to find out!

  10. Thank You to Bruce_in_Oz For This Useful Post:

Hey, he got it checked out and it is a (In Finnishicon) "Karbidilampu". Panic over. Let's hope he doesn't fine any more curious items...

I take it that translates to Carbide Lamp!

Well, better to be safe than sorry as they say!
