Need help identifying proof marks

I have a 1916 smle iii* will be posting pictures soon but fir now I'll just tell y'all a couple. Ok we'll the serial number is 9221 I've also found a M in several place and an arm with a saber right in front of the breech or at least that's what it looks like. Under the sight is a HV and a SC there's a few I'll get pics up soon

That was a little help I believe it was made in Yorkshire under Gregorio's Rex but that's all I could figure out

The arm is supposed to be holding a seax (A Saxon sword and the reason that we are called Anglo-Saxons.) and is part of the Gunmakers Company Proof mark. In other words it was Proofed in London.

Cool info that arm and seax is kinda blurred so I wasn't sure

And Yorkshire I guessed from the M stamp ROF maltby in Yorkshire

Anyone know where to find the unit marks or what they might look like.

GR = Georgius Rex. In this case King George the V.

The Royal Ordnance Factory Maltby did not make any SMLEs. It only made No.4 Mk.1 rifles during World War II.

Unit marks would be found on the brass plate inset into the buttstock.

Your pics show the usual host of inspection marks but a picture of the right hand of the butt socket would be helpful.

I did not say that, nor is there any evidence for that. The London Proof mark (if that is what you have seen), a requirement for civilian sale under our laws, were applied AFTER it left service.
