Nice one Geoff. I have one DA prefix NZ
issue No.8 of my own but it's in need of a good going over, a patch at the toe of the butt and no where near as pretty as that. Gotta love those .22's. My personal projects seem to take a back burner these days.

I had a couple many years ago and was well aware of how well they shot. Wish I had one today, but I guess that's how things go...

I have had 3 No8 DA prefix rifles recently and only one had NZ
markings.

Out of the blue i was offered a N.9 last week, so couldn't turn it down and now sits in the collection

All three of my No8 are NZ
marked,as is my No9
My understanding, and it would not surprise me if I'm wrong on this, is the DA was for the rifles made for civilian sales and was used for the NZ order to avoid paying some fee.
I would find any info on this very interesting.

One of the DA Prefix No8 I had recently with no NZ marks also had FTR marks as well so would probably rule out a civilian sale.

It would seem hard for those two to go together!

You're NEARLY right Res. The manufacture of No8 rifles was undertaken by the commercial BSA Company on contract to the Ministry of Supply (Fazakerley were already owned and operated by the MoS as a Government factory) and the rights to the rifle and manufacture were owned by them. NZ
saw the new No8 and approached the private BSA cvompany directly.
Hey........ I have written all this up before. Can anyone bring it all up again to save going through it all again
