    M1 Carbine - PLEASE HELP

    Hi,
I am considering whether to make an offer on this carbine.
They guy wants $1,200 for it.
It is a Standard Products with a Marlin Barrel.
I am really looking for a shooter but since it has the flip site that would be a bonus.
Any thoughts on value would be appreciated.
These are the best pics I can get from the guy.
Also, can anyone give me a ballpark idea of what shooters run?

I'm not an expert on these by any means so I'm just passing on what I've seen recently. At the York Gun Show last weekend, I saw several carbines for sale in the $900 range which would be in the shooter, not really collectible category. One sold for that at an auction locally this morning. I expect you could find them at a private sale for a bit less than that. Price always depends on what you want, what you are willing to pay and condition. Looks like some pitting on the trigger guard.

I wonder what's been done to the rear sight, if anything, in the sides to get it looking that clean on the sides. I do think it's real, but it just looks odd. It's also pushed all of the way left, but I can see the index marks, so that's the factory setting I am pretty sure. Most everything I see looks good. 1200 would be about and possibly a bit of a good deal if the pictures aren't lying. BTW, shooters are now in the neighborhood of 750 to 800 depending on who makes the carbine. However, you can find them for a bit less if you know where to look.

I'd raise the caution flag on that rear sight -- never seen one pushed all the way to the left. It could be that no one has shot the gun for 50 years and the sight just got banged. Or it could be something serious, like a bent barrel. Can someone run a bore sight down the barrel to check it out? Or shoot it to see why there is so much adjustment.

No, I am feel good about what I am seeing. If I had 1200 bucks lying around, I would probably grab that SP up.

Looks good to me. If I were in the market I would buy that carbine.

Buy it. now, The rear sight is original and in it's original position. I would think you could double your money.

I noted in my first post that the sight was in the far left position, but you can clearly see the factory index marks in the OP's pictures. I have seen more than a few carbines with original flips that are pushed all of the way left, but with index marks indicating it was that way from the factory. I know what I'd pay for it if I wanted it.

Anton, if you buy, let us know the bolt, slide and receiver numbers. We can get a good idea if the thing could have left SP in that configuration.
