Question on short chambered AR barrels

I have a new AR barrel that is short chambered. Would anyone have an idea how much it would cost to have the barrel chambered to 5.56? Thanks

You can get the ream and do it yourself for the same cost. I've never heard of short chambered AR barrels though. Depends on exactly where you are. You'd need to talk to gunsmith's until you find one that satisfies you with knowledge that he can do it competently. Look in the phone book.

A reamer worth using will set you back at least $250.00. We charge $50.00 or $75.00 to finish chamber although we don't do ARs. My advice is do not use a pull through reamer. Measure what you need with a depth mic, remove the barrel and chuck it in a lathe and ream it from the breech end as it should be done. This way will require you remove the gas/sight block.

Wow, last one I got was 5.56 or 7.62 and it was just about the $100 limit...2 years ago I think. Anyway, I still have them so I'm OK.

If little metal needs to be removed, I would just use an extension on the reamer, and turn it by hand, without detaching and stripping the barrel.

Thanks for the information. The reason I wondered about the cost is I could buy an other barrel, with a correct chamber for less than having it done. I tries 3 different bolts and had the same result-no lock up. Thanks again.

I've not heard of or seen a short chambered AR, a correct barrel would be the way to go and sell the other to someone that can finish it himself for no cost...and get your money back out of it.

Tried different ammo? The bolt on my new RRA 5.56 carbine would not close on PPU ammo, tried some Sadu and it was fine. The PPU (all 1000 rounds!) had a slight bulge where pressing the bullet deformed the case mouth on assembly...

I'd love to see it myself but if three bolts don't close...there's something wrong...
