60 grain 223 Sierra's
I see Sierra has 60gr bullets in .223.
Anyone here tried them or know what twist barrel is best for them?
The price is lower then the 52's, 53's.
I'm wondering if they would work well in a 1:7.8 twist barrel.

They are very close to SMKs in terms of accuracy. I tend to use them for playing on the 100 yard reduced course. They will clean every stage with good X counts, otherwise I wouldnt use them.
Should work fine in the 1-7.8 twist. I used them in 1/8 and 1/7. No reason to run them fast at short range though.

I shot quite a few of them when I was developing loads for my .22-250, and they shot very well.
I do not know what the twist is, but surely slower than 1:8.

The Greenhill formula would say 1/9.5 at speeds under 2,800fps, and 1/11.4 when in excess of that.

I run them from time to time for the 200yd offhand stage. 24.0gr Varget. About as accurate as the 69gr SMK's

They actually shoot better at 300 yards out of my 1 in 8 scoped upper than the 68/69 grain bullets (in light wind). They even shot well out of my 223 VS with 1 in 12 twist till the barrel fouled after about 30 shots. I used them for 100 yard reduced matches, but I'm hoarding the 800 or so I have left..

I see someone uses 24.0 gr of Varget.
Do you and others also have a recommended powder and load.
I will develop my own and won't hold anyone to anything.
I ordered some today thru my club and won't get them for awhile.

FOr short course work, any cheap ball powder in low weight charges. YOu dont need a fast round and about anything you load is going to shoot very well. Not worth wasting time experimenting unless you got time to waste.

doubtful. I've tried some 69 grainers in a 1:12 twist and it is shotgun pattern. Likewise for 55's in a 1 in 8 twist.
Can you buy a few and test them?
