L4A3 Build Questions
Getting ready to build a L4A3 parts kit from Sarco and I got a few questions. Where does the piece in the first picture go? Second is, how do you tell the difference between a 303 and 7.62N gas regulator? I have read that there is a difference but the 7.62 markings that are on some of the other parts is lacking on this item. Here is a pic of the one that came with the kit.
This is my 4thBren build. I have a MK1, MK2 and a MK3 already, so I do have some experience with this weapon.

dlbard, I have a question about your kit. Did it come with a bipod and if so, can you post a picture of such? Thank you. All the best with your build. Looking forward to seeing it progress.

Yes it came with a bipod. It has adjustable legs and the difference I see is it has a gas deflector shield attached to it that the other MKs didn't.

This is a pic I found on this site. Mine has the shield like the piece on the far right. I'm away from home right now, so I'll post a pic as soon as I can.

That is a great picture dlbard. The mounting swivel on the left shows the sling loop that is milled away or deleted on the later mounts to accommodate the cowel ( as illustrated by the two mounts on the right, one with shield installed and one ready to be installed). Too bad those cowels have a poor reputation for standing up to a rotating gun. Wish they had been man’d out of a thicker material.
I need to modify my L4A4 and want to have it mimic Mr. Laidler
’s description of fixes applied to A8s and A9s. Hoping to catch a picture somewhere.

Thank you for the pics. You are in a good position to apply the mentioned modification and refinish the whole bipod. I will have to refinish mine after the modification, which is too bad because it has a very nice finish at the moment. I am referring to whatever mod was done on A8s and A9s to keep a flopping L4 from bending up the cowl (shield).

What I would actually like to do is find a similar sling loop material, without destroying a whole bipod to get at one, and weld that high up on the mounting sleeve (I need to look up the official name) of the bipod part. This will do three things. #1, it will keep the weight of the whole gun off the cowel when the gun rolls to the left. #2, it will limit the AMOUNT of left hand yaw ( how much is really necessary?) and #3, when the rifle is slung, it will dimenish the amount of yaw applied to the bipod as using the sling mount lower on the pivot mechanism means one is pulling the bipod in a rotational manor UP against the gun. The higher sling point will give less leverage to the bipod.

The mystery piece is the plunger from the mag catch pin. Should be a spring with it.

Have you got a Mk4 Barrel from a MK3 fitted to the L4? I assume you want to sleavevthevMk4 Barrel with a 7.62mm liner.
