Non arsenal stamped stock.

I've recently bought a 1903 stock from Sarco. The stock is ok and in good shape for what they called service grade. I have not found any type of arsenal stamps on the stock except a Ordnance dept flaming bomb on the end of the stock by the front band, the number 17 on the right side of the stock and a 4 digit number on the right side of the butt stock. Could I have purchased a depot replacement stock?

That's great. This old war horse went through Peninsular Base Station in Italy and I wanted a non arsenal stock to put it back in. I doubt they would have sanded the area near the ejection port since all Mark 1 were refubed in the 30's and in the beginning of WW2

It looks like there was a cartouche there above the trigger but it's been sanded down. The whole things shows signs of sanding to me... I marked the cartouche location, can you see what I mean?

I saw that after I took that pic. I took three more with the same effect. When you look at it it doesn't show up but it will show up in pics with the flash on.

Let me take a few more pics in different lighting to see if it will come out clearer

You have a 1903A3 stock , not a M1903.

I would love to speak to an Army armorer from that time to see what they did to salvage damaged rifles. i read that the no7 and no10 type were almost identical with both using pins instead of bolts but the no7 was for 03 and the no10 was for 03A3. I wish I could find that sight again. What details do I need to look for?

You are correct. It is a 03A3 stock. I found the website and compared a 03 stock with a 03A3 stock. It has been cut for the hand guard ring

You have a Remington M'03-A3 stock. The original inspection stamp would have been a boxed "FJA". The stock appears to have an extra arsenal overhaul inspection stamp beside or atop the original "FJA".
