Your sporter is done up just the way I like them; highly functional & no nonsense. It wasn't uncommon that bolts, after being turned down to work with a scope, were simply left in the "bright" condition.
I like the stock repair! Always a conversation starter I'm sure. The story behind a rifle like that is the type that is told over and over again in the evenings at deer camp.

Whoever made your stock, also made mine. I've never looked close to see if there are any manufacturer's marks on the wood. Mine's a Remington, April of '42 production. I got it for $244.00 shipped, and it came with a mint Milsco 1944 sling. I sold the sling for $110.00 so I reckon I got the rifle for $134.00. The wood is perfect, the metal finishing real nice. A grocery-gitter as we say here in the holler. Stuck an old weaver on mine.
Yours look great. That break in the wrist shows that you have a multi-utility weapon. PD

i love them old hunting rifles, i say you send me the stock and have it repaired right, and put a nicer scope on it,ill bet it outshoots anything sold today.
