Prototype .30 caliber carbine pistol Designed – Made by George F. Grebey

I didn't know about this 1 of 1 Prototype Designed and made by George F. Grebey who worked on the Winchester Carbine rifle design. I wonder what it sold for.
Below is a copy / paste from the 2012 Auction description:

Prototype or inventors model .30 caliber carbine pistol marked “Designed – Made by George F. Grebey, Sept. 1 1943” on butt and right side of frame marked “30 cal. short-semi-auto, -gas action-“. Grebey worked for Winchester and was involved in the engineering and manufacture of the M1icon Carbine. This pistol version was made during the Second World War and Grebey hoped to secure a government contract for paratrooper or Special Forces use. The prototype measures 14” overall with 6” barrel, is finished in the bright and shows a left hand carbine style cocking lever with a feeding port that accepts M1 carbine magazines. The pistol is contained within a handmade case with many accessories, extra barrels and gauges. The metal is in the bright and pistol is unfinished with a set of blueprints and working diagram. Recently discovered in the possession of Grebey’s descendents. A rare and museum quality prototype. Should be further researched as it may have ties to Winchester or development for the war department. Est.;$10,000-$30,000.

Now that's one I have never seen before. The revolvers really bark, i'd imagine this one is pretty bad too. Let alone semi auto Attachment toward the front may be a weight or port to counter the muzzle climb? I am surprised it doesn't come with a 30 rounder.
    Interesting find!

What a horrible looking handgun. I'll bet it didn't get past initial selections. That one will sell high.

It looks like the grip from an 1858 Remington attached to a nightmare.

This thread reminded me of an article in the latest issue of American Rifleman on the guns of Robert L. Hillberg. Hillberg held more than 40 U.S. patents on firearm innovations. He even designed a 5 lb. version of a .30 caliber carbine in 1945 - it's pictured in the article.

Attached pictures show his Whitney "Wolverine" 22 LR semi-auto pistol. I had never heard of these before, but I bet some of you guys have. I found additional information here:

It doesn't fire .30 Carbine, but it's a slick looking piece compared to Charlie's Grebey. - Bob

The Wolverine was marketed at one time by Olympic Arms.

Yep, about 3/4 of the way down the page in the American Rifleman link - listed under "Related Stories" - there's another link to the Olympic Arms version. - Bob
