In case we thought this thing would go away, here's something new. Just to make your teeth wiggle... Hunters of the lost Spitfires: Inside the dig at Burmese airport for planes believed to have been buried in giant crates in 1945 — War History Online
Regards, Jim
Listening to the Today programme on Radio 4 on the way into work this morning - they're reporting the archaeologists with Cundall have now gone through his interview and documentary evidence and assessed what they've found so far on the dig - and they believe there are no Spitfires there and never were.
I heard that too. About time someone had the balls to tell the clown the truth. Buried Spitfires........... what a load of pure crap! Looks like I'll be keeping my money. But don't be disappointed lads as to recompense, I will make a generous donation behind the bar at the Armourers 63A Apprentices reunion at Carlisle this Autumn and maybe at the Armourers Dinner in London in September
Well some good came of it. Well done!
Story is now online: BBC News - Archaeologists believe no Spitfires buried in Burma
There's Britishfighters buried in my workshop!
See?:
I'm sure the rest of them is in there somewhere...
(In actual fact these bits were uncovered today whilst building some new shelving.)
Even one NOS never installed forging mixed in with some unfinished new production (circa 1998 or so) attach brackets.
There should be some bulkhead form block patterns around here somewhere. Call the excavators!
ETA: But first and most importantly: Send lots of money! C/O Milsurps.com would be fine.

Jmoore Label that stuff properly or it will end up at the scrap yard one day. Out the back window of my office is a scrap proccessor. I had to start closing the blinds after I saw them grapple an old Farmall tractor into the transport truck. I'm afraid I will see an old Mustang ,T bird or 55 Chevy and throw myself on top of it and be crushed right along with it.
Could this be what the farmer was thinking when he found all those Spitfires?
