Hi Andy, I thought (hoped) the L129A1 was a keeper and had moved over to standard equipment, by all accounts a great bit of kit, or so I have heard...

Good ( expensive ) pics of kit.. but not enough of them to take its place in the whole of the army. It only pushed accuracy out to 600m
They would need to buy more of them with proper maintenance backup. And admit the SA80 was not up to the required battle standard ( for the last conflict!!!)
Maybe they could teach soldiers to shoot! A competent shot can push the SA80 to 500m

In our case, a few years back I ran a SA coaching course for my reserve unit. I saw to it they had the chance to do some iron sight use and coaching...they were the first in a decade and the last since. Now it's shoot fast and change mags. Marksmanship has dwindled. I won't preach defeat here though, better to let Sentryduty come give testimony about current deployment policies...I'm out of touch there.
    Regards, Jim

As you may know Andy within certain Regiments and Battalions the range weekend is no longer a MTD...... which to me I would of thought would be one of the compulsory ones we have to do now, seems walking round in the dark and sleeping under a tree is better than being a good competent shot..... Guess I'm lucky in having plenty of years experience of walking around in the dark normally starting around 2330 with a slight stagger and have slept comfortable under a variety of things other than trees......
