Closeups in focus, markings, markings on the rings. Are they marked T4 on the ends? Closeups of the bracket (base) on all 4 sides. Those items have been copied commercially, some are good and some are not.

Your attempting to sell pieces that are expensive and heavily reproduced. There are certain nuances about the two pieces that those reproducing have never been able or willing to duplicate. The higher the quality the photo better the chance to determine authenticity.

When you say base are you talking about the pice that mounts to the rifle or the part the rings mount to?

Also should I remove rings for a better picture on that?

Base (bracket): Mounts on receiver with screws and pins
Mount: Holds the telescope.
The "mount" attaches to the "base" via dovetail and locks on via thumb lever rotation.

A disturbing trend
Good Day,
The developmental history and use (both historical and current) of various firearms (in this case Garands) have always been my focus on these boards. Over the years, many individuals that were genuinely interested in like studies offered up their information and thoughts freely. This lead to (at times) heated discussions which were interesting to say the least. However, these "discussions" helped in our understanding of these pieces and how they impacted history. Recently, I'm seeing more and more chime in with " tell me what its worth" and that's all. Nothing beyond a monetary concern, no interest in understanding the nuances of a piece, no care as to the historical perspective. This contributes little but to drive out the new collectors when they see some of the prices tossed out whilly nilly. I do not want to dissuade new aficionados from asking questions- if fact I encourage it and I look forward (when possible) to answering them.
Maybe we need another area where individuals can post arbitrary "this is what I have, I don't know what its worth, send me an offer" items. This might cut down on the number of speculative questions poised.
I'm torn on people asking "what's it worth" on the forums. My first instinct is to say "What do you want to sell it for??" Price is completely subjective unless someone is going to say "You have item X and I'll give you Y for it right now" An item is worth what someone is ACTIVELY willing to pay for it. To those that don't like that idea- stop taking up bandwidth, take the offer or put it on ePAY. I'm hoping that this new website will lead to more intellectual and informative discussions that will attract a younger group of collectors to carry on the torch after we have gone.
I will say it that if one is planing to ask over $1500 for an item, then one needs to put out some money and buy a decent camera! The pictures aren't that good and there are too many reproductions out there. There is a seller on ePay that is offering a decent (but not exact) copy of the MC-1 mount and rail for US$370. The worst thing that can happen is to burn a new collector all because of crappy pictures.
I now dismount my horse,
Michael

I think that some people come to these forums because they understand that this is where the experts are and they are looking for a little help in getting a fair price for their piece. They may not be collectors of M1 parts, they may have something that came from an estate, or possibly been in the family for awhile that they need to sell. Many people have been ripped off by "collectors" that prey on someones lack of knowledge or experience with collector firearms.
I believe in this case this gentleman is just trying to find out some info on his scope mount that he has. I directed him to this site because I thought this would be the best place to get advice and info from the experts but all he gets is "hey buddy buy a better camera." He is not trying to deceive anyone, he has not even offered it for sale on this site. It is always helpful to tell someone they need better pictures because it helps with the assesment of the value and authenticity, simply stating this woud have sufficed I am sure. He came here from another forum; a forum that he has offered lots of information and expertise to others. Some of these questions are the same old "what scope should I buy" or "can I shoot a .308 ot to 4000 yards," yet he is always patient and responds with useful information when he can. We are all gun people and we all have our areas of expertise that will allow us to assist others and grow the sport, if you don't like a post or don't want offer useful comments then don't repond to it.

Since your post is not directed to anyone in particular, all respondents must assume it's inclusive. If asking for better photos to assess value is not considered useful, I'll stay out of any further assistance.
