Thanks
Just ordered a copy.
I first read about Bailey's snipers in "sniping in the trenches" by Plaster
Great book but very hard to find, paladin press went out of business just as it was printed with few copies being available for sale.
Sniping in the Trenches: World War I and the Birth of Modern Sniping: Plaster USAR (Ret.), Maj. John L.: 9781610049023: Amazon.com: Books

Given the auctioneers description, its recent import to the UK and the additional remarks on here regarding the re-barrelling (thanks Roger), I raised a query with the auctioneer about the current proof status of the rifle as the only visible proof marks were more than likely on the replacement BSA barrel before it was fitted to this rifle. They did eventually reply with a thanks for raising it, an apology for their oversight and stating that they would now be sending it for new UK proof!
p.s. it hammered this morning for GBP 13,000 (plus fees of around 33% on top, and another 5% VAT on the hammer price if sold to a UK buyer). The pre-sale estimate was GBP 5-7000.

HOW MUCH ?
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Crikey. I put in a cheeky bid, towards the upper end of the estimated price range. Didn't think I had much chance, but equally didn't expect it to go that high........especially with all of the bits & pieces to add on, particularly if you are a UK buyer. That's a twenty grand rifle, all in.
At least my wife will be relieved........
