If you purchase a rifle from a box store, it is very unlikely you will get a matching bayonet. Either the importer or the box store at the time of packaging for sale just grabs a bayonet and along with the other accessories, puts it into the box. If you purchase a rifle from a seller who has the entire crate of them, you should insist on the matching bayonet because they were packaged in the crates that way. These were all most likely numbered to match the rifles at the time of the refurbishment so it is not unusual for them to be together in their storage crates at all, it just becomes unusual to get them when careless or simply unknowing individuals mix them up at the time of sale.

I have four 91/30's, two from Dunhams, one from Cabelas and one from a gun show. I have one matching bayonet, the one purchased at the gun show from an individual with a full crate. He took the time to match the correct bayonet to the rifles. I commented on this "oddity" and he is the one that explained how they are packed and shipped and that not getting the correct bayonet is just the way the people opening the crates sells them.
