    Smile sight bases

I have removed the sights and bases on the barrel that I'm replacing, Both were soldered on and was able to remove easy with a small propane torch, there was a small screw under the ladder sight, that I didn't remove, after sight was remove I looked inside the barrel band base and there was no evidence that it protruded all the way through, not sure if it holds the spring in place or not?

That's one of the nifty things about Mausers, a barrel is a barrel. No extractor slots, driving flats etc to worry about indexing.

Wind it in to headpace and torque and THEN fit the sights.

Use the lowest melting-point solder you can find. Some of the stuff sold for electronic work is particularly useful.

7 x 57 is a damn fine and effective cartridge; see "Boer War", alternately, the story of "Karamojo" Bell and his exploits with a 7x 57 on elephants; supreme confidence and ability, or utter madness?
