i too am a machinist, and with 18 years of experience, i could whip a type 3 down to a type 2 in no time at all, now im not saying you did that, its probably the way you got it. but it is no doubt a cut down band, which is why it hasnt gotten a lot of bids so far ......there is an old saying
" theres a seat for evey azz and an azz for every seat" (had to edit)
so someone without the correct knowledge and experience will bid on it

Not to get into this discussion on who is the best machinist, but in my opinion the edge in question looks like it is sheared [from being die cut]. I can not see evidence of grinding or machining. [.02] I think it is real also.

Here are the best super close ups of the recessed area of the band
You can clearly see the shear line from punch press operations.

I'm not a machinist, but my brother is

It sure doesn't look like it has been cut with a machining operation. I also think it's kind of insulting to the guy after he has explained where it came from to flatly state that its a fake when it clearly isn't. An *** for every seat; got that right.

It was asked by a member if it was real. phillydude answered the thread and is correct in his opinion about the band. I to agree it is not real, and I am not saying that the owner did anything but it is not a real type two band. I own several KI type two bands and the one in question looks different than mine and others I own made by different makers. I know when I list something to sell on ebay that I will be subject to the same scrutiny that has happened with this item. If you think it is real that is your opinion and I respect that.

After looking at the close up pic's. My question is: If it is not a die cut in the manufacturing process,How was it recut?
Rustship; This is what makes this such a "good" forum,a good debate over items of question. Please keep debates "nice".
But please remember,These items are "old" and made by many different manufufacures.
Everyone has their opinion, and nothing is perfect.
    That's my opinion .

    Barrel Band

Your right Shady, I know for a fact that some of the members on here are probably the best in the Nation. That's why I ask, and I get good answers. Here a few more closer pics I took of mine. It has nice radius on turn in, but it is not reccessed. I already put the type 3 on my Standard, and as hard as that Dxxn pin was to knock out the type 3 is going to stay on there a while. LOL
