Ignore the open flap P-38 and other silly belt carried accoutrements. The second image is Rifleman J.J. Showers, Queen's Own Rifles of
Canada, while training in the U.K..

Judging by the size of the objective he's using some commandeered civilian pattern with about a 1.5" objective, and nickel plated to boot! No wonder it's wrapped in camo.
The other photo looks like it was taken at the same place and time as that famous series of Sgt. Marshall.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928
Much changes, much remains the same.

To be honest, it looks to me like he's got the sct reg scope back to front!. Obviously posed while he's scribbling his notes.
Getting back to reality now................. Anyone else care to comment......... As for the notion that any, even remotely sane person in his right mind, would ever, ever, ever, in a thousand years carry grenades or even one grenade clipped over his belt by the arming lever is the stuff of comics and fairytales and would never happen in the real world. There's just the shear strength of a soft bog standard garage split pin that's already under load, between you and valhalla. I appreciate that we all posed for warry pictures to send home to our mums but I can't believe that it got past the censor

Zing ! Caring to comment: Maybe it was the influence of the Pommy officers assigned to oversee training those B-L-O-O-D-Y wild Colonial boys? There are still some of us around who have cleaned, performed striker tests, primed and tossed enough 36 grenades to understand no "remotely sane person in his right mind . . . "
As I wrote in the initial posting: Ignoring the silly accoutrements ... knowing that the someone would rise to the bait. ROLF? LOL? OMG yes! I am pulling your ****er Peter.

Posed pictures
What ? Posed images are not the real world ? Are they posed in order to elicit a certain response from the viewer?
