I’m thinking about putting a scope on my K98icon too.

Actually the rifle was NOT designed to "work " with a 196 grain bullet . The Gew-98 and the K-98k [ which is exactly the same rifling type , twist and bore size as the Gew-98 and 98 AZ ] were set up to shoot the 154 grain S ammo . The 196 bullet was a machine gun bullet . When the Germans made the 196 standard for all arms all the did to the K-98k was change the sight ramp . That is why the ramps are removable and marked S or sS . The early K-98k was sighted for the S ammo . So the barrel steps had nothing to do with the 196 sS ammo . Nothing was changed . In reality the 9.4 twist is really to slow for the 196 bullet for accuracy . It is perfect for the 154 bullet . After test shooting over 50 K-98k's for accuracy I found the 150 grain bullet to be the most accurate in about 95% .

It certainly worked for me. and I like that I have made no permanent modifications to my rifle. The mount is well machined and rock solid.

I've shot iron sights my entire life, but glasses are really no substitute for young eyes.

    wrong powder.....

Turns out the powder I was using for those 139gr bullets was too slow.
I was looking at some load data for Hornady 8mm Mauser 125gr bullets and noticed all the powders listed were different than the ones for 150gr+

Switched to IMR 3031, working my way up from 47gr and the groups kept getting smaller.
just need to see if I can tighten these up a bit more.

Apparently the Kar98kicon can shoot lightweight bullets.

In the end, I decided to take my diopter off the K31icon and install the BadAce mount.
    Feels very solid.
I hope to be able to try it out next week-end.

That looks sweet. I will be interested in seeing a range report on that.
    7.5×55mm Swissicon?

My Father-In-Law gave my son a K31 and I think he would like to put on a scope for hunting/long range shooting.
The Swiss are known for accuracy.

She shoots very well. I'll try maybe this Saturday, but most probably the next one. I have a mountain climb made up with my Military School pals on the Peralba on Saturday, and the range ist just plan B for this week.

I just know that You will need to slug your barrel so they can make the correct diameter bullet.

Horrible results Saturday... I made a great zeroing at home, shooting within 2" from the bullseye at 100 metres with my first shot, but I guess the mount was not fixed right, because after that I had very erratic results.
The loads were my usual few, so I'm sure they are ok.
I took everything off and returned the rifle to her original configuration, with the standard iron sights.

    Sorry to hear this.
I had an initial problem with my setup, could not get a decent grouping, but iron sights worked fine.
I sent the scope to Vortex to have it checked out and they sent me a new one, apparently I had over-tightened the rings and damaged the scope .
Vortex sent me a replacement and everything was good.
