The 'slamfire' possibility is basically just if you haven't cleaned your firing pin out and there is cosmolineicon in the bolt preventing the firing pin from moving. It is a non-issue, if it wasn't they wouldn't have changed the design in the first place.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I have to agree with EagleLord. I have run a few thousand rounds through my Chinese SKS and never had a slam-fire with it, but it is always cleaned after each use. I also recommend no oil on the firing pin or its channel, since tat attracts dust and other stuff which could cause the firing pin to lose its mobility. Now if we were talking about my MAS 49/56, I may agree with you reference the spring kit for that rifle!

I never had or know of anyone having a slamfire either. I expect there's more story to that than it being an issue.
    Regards, Jim

Ok thanks guys I really appreciate the input! For now I'll leave it as is!! Have another question for you guys that know more about these guns.
What in your opinions would be the best shell for hunting? Manufacturer? Point? grain? I have 2 boxes of cheap Barnaul FMJ for target shooting. But I would like to use this gun this fall for the deer hunt! Any help as always is most appreciated.

Hunters using the SKS in this area use 154 grain soft points for hogs and deer with satisfaction. But I dont know about manufacturer or wether brass or steel case.
