Finally, I`ve found another one. I have a No4 Mk1 with the same FDM markings on the bolt, receiver and barrel I even have that really faint word to the left of No4 Mk1 which I was thinking ended in lly. My post is here:

Is your muzzle cut?
Does your barrel have a section made smaller like mine?
Is opposite side of butt socket stamped with FP?

Don't worry about those Arabic markings under the serial as they are the date Peter was referring to. The original serial would be under the date.

From the few I've seen Maltby started out with the full "R.O.F.M. No.4.MK.1.1941", then dropped to "R.O.F.M. No.4.MK.1.". then finally just "No.4.MK.1", then those stamps must have worn out and it became just hand stamps on the butt socket and electric pencil on the body side.
(That's the second time I've caught myself typing "19141" instead of "1914". Must be the centenary!)
