When I first started collecting carbines, I was thinking about buying a receiver to build up .I had read posts about this guy so I knew about his reputation as a humper but I figured I would give him a call partly our of curiosity and also because I figured how can someone misrepresent a receiver ? Remember I was very new to all this stuff so I didnt know about how some folks alter staked receivers to look unmolested ,and things like that. Anyway, he said no problem he could help me out and we had a rather lengthy discussion.His reputation was clearly in my mind, I even went so far as to politely say that I had been hesitant to even call him because of his horrible reputation. He told me that he was aware of his rep and he said it was all "BS" and that it was all started by a few members of forums and also he said the Carbine Club had been slandering him (BTW I am a extremely proud member of the Carbine Club!!!!) and he even went so far as to say that he had sued the Carbine Club over it and even won the judgement ( I dont know if such a suit ever took place much less what the verdict was but thats what he told me).
I told him that I as I was looking into buying a receiver I sure didnt want to end up with one that had be demilled and rewelded. Guess what he said to that... he said that those receivers are easy to spot, he said that you need to look to see how the machining marks etc. look to see if its been grinded and all which is just common sence. When I mentioned how I had heard that rewelded receivers could also be identified by looking for discoloration of the parked finish where the weld is, here is what he said to me, he said thats because after the welding,grinding and finish work as far as prep for being parked, you need to heat the whole receiver up real good so the park job will be consistant all over the part. So there you have it....Now please dont get me wrong, I am not saying that he does this.... all I am saying is that he told me how it can be done it so it supposedly cant be spotted which makes me suspect that possibly he has experience. Im not posting this to slander anyone, Im only relating my conversation with him because his comments sure raised a HUGE red flag with me.

He doesn't do shows anymore. I called for an appraisal last year before I found out what he is.. At that time he said he hadn't been selling at shows for a couple of years. I pointed out his web page still says that he still does shows.. I haven't been back to see if he's removed that line like he said he was gonna.
