I know I'm a newbie to understanding the M1 but those stampings on the reciever look hokey to me. Surely the worker would be ashamed to have his work slant like that.

This type of stuff makes me sad. I just read on the CMP forum where collectors are using a jeweler to make and re-identify Garand Parts. I'm just getting into this stuff and it doesn't look like I stand a chance until I loose my first 3 or 4 thousand to counterfeiters.

This makes me sad. I saw a jeweler who does this over on CMP forum. Selfish people ruin everything.

The markings are not stampings. They are done with a pantagraph machine like a jeweler or trophy shop uses to engrave things. It follows a pattern on one end and engraves it on the other end. The markings are unmistakeable as the bit used to cut the letters or numbers leaves a round end where it starts and finishes.
It is also being used to alter aftermarket 1911A1 style receivers with fake U.S. military markings. The best I have seen yet was an Ithaca in the 912000 serial number range that the faker got lost on, and instead of having a six digit serial number had a seven digit number, making it in the 9 million range. The bad thing was that someone had already bought it thinking they got a bargain.

I first heard of M1911 frames being jeweled years back. I knew a dealer, since deceased, who had piles of cast frames made in nice M1911A1 Colt frames. Sold for real money. Guys have to be smart.

Ignorance Right LOL
I mailed him about the drawing number and how any amount of bull was not going to make the rifle better. He told me "Your ignorence isn't worth responding to".. Shame.

yes, sure looks like an H&R receiver by the way the edges are smooth but that might just be me. There was one of these Garands floating around the local gunshow circuit here in pensacola a while back and unfortunately some fake Colt 45's with the same style of etching process...
