What's the Story on M1 Carbine Ammo Going To The Wolves?

I recently retired as Chief of Security at a nearby Government facility (non-military). Our 62-man guard force had to practice and re-qualify every six months using their Glock Mod 17 9mm pistols and .223 cal M16 rifles, consuming approximately 500 rounds per man per session (over 60,000 rnds/year). Of course, each man was responsible for cleaning his weapon after the session. Because of cost, we initially used Wolf ammo for both calibers. However, after listening to the men complain for several months about the dirty guns and too-frequent stoppages in the full-auto M16s, I finally went out to the range for my own re-qualification with both weapons.

I encountered no stoppages, but when I got back to base to clean my weapons, I was shocked to look in the mirror and see that my face looked like a "reverse racoon" -- nearly black everywhere except where my shooting glasses had kept the greasy soot off my skin! Both guns were absolutely FILTHY, and took at least three times longer to clean as usual, consuming way too much cleaning solution, patches, and rags. NOW I knew what they were talking about!

I had to do some footwork with the Procurement Office to get around the "low-bid" Gov't mandate, but we never bought another round of Wolf! The men were happy, and it turned out to earn me some "street cred" with the guys. Everybody happy EXCEPT Wolf!

Like I said before, slowly put the box of ammo down and back away from the table without turning around.... tell them you don't own a carbine, that you were just curious about it because your grandfather told war stories about them, and that you were just looking for the my-little-pony convention and made a wrong turn into the gunshow. Above all, do NOT mention the amount of cash in your pocket, the November election or ask for small rifle primers. Those vendors do have loud barks, some have been known to bite but most have had their shots.
