They are being faked up as we speak so I understand. If you want the real McCoy, STUDY 5th BATTS PICTURE
The No4 & N9 woodwork was listed separately at the auction, I dont know if there is any difference between them.

    Lowest s/n N9 was A6
    Highest A2640

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Tauranga, there's a nice place to live NZicon Shooter. The fact is that even if there were up to 3,000 rifles, they are rare. There are some other comments on Pat Chadwicks thread too.

Maybe someone ought to pull the two threads together. Incidentally, Colin Wren the very Senior Naval Armaments person who setr me thinking about all this was an Armourer, man and boy and also supplied all of the Lanchester info from his apprentice days

A good idea Peter but since Patrick Chadwick is looking for advice as to which of the two rifles he should buy I’ll leave them separate so as not to diminish his replies. If no one objects I’ll merge them when his hasn’t received any replies for a few weeks.

Probably has nothing to do with N9 v No9

When I was a kid at school, they tried to get us to write 'Nr' as an abbreviation for number instead of 'No'

The difference between the No4 woodwork and the N9 is that the finger grooves in the rear handguards on the N9 are very shallow, thats all that I could see!
