Bill, Thats a nice carbine and a GREAT save on the restoration. I like the look of the finish - the natural "aging" process has been good to that receiver. I hope I look that good when I turn 66 years old!

    Thanks for sharing it!

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I have a 5.6292xx

It is thought to be original and an identical carbine exists within a few numbers of mine with identical features. It has the Hemphill adj sight, low wood, and type 2 band. I believe it is very safe to assume that there was a mix of flips and adjustable sights used as available when these carbines were built.

Dave, I think this just goes to prove that at this point in manufacturing that it was whatever they grabbed off the shelf and they had a mix of sights.
