    The wood on the fore end is beech. Savage did not use beech so it is a replacement. That would lend credence to the "R" meaning replacement.
    FR also means field repair, especially if it stamped on the butt stock. If stamped on the receiver it means Factory Repair.

    Thanks guys I am happy with it. I was the first one to put scratches on the magazine follwer and the feed ramp finish. If it had been fired since the overhaul they loaded one at a time. Very accurate too, now I have to learn to shoot.
