If you recently got this one off of gunbroker, I think I saw the same one you were looking at. From the pictures I saw, if it is the same one, I was concerned about the front sight being canted, or perhaps "out of timing" is the proper phrase also.

an alternative to finding an orig 1903 bbl is to lathe turn a remington 1903a3 bbl so that the rear sight fits over it. this keeps the rifle more or less "correct".

dont waste your time with a A3 barrel.
1903 barrels arent that hard to find.
by the time you buy an A3 barrel, pay to have it fitted for a rear sight base.
pay to have the base installed, you could have got a real 1903 barrel.
why not straighten the barrel thats on the rifle??it aint rocket science.
if your going to do it,,,do it right the first time, so you dont have to do it twice.

How do you straighten a bent barrel?

All barrels are bent to some degree during manufacture due to heat while tapering the blank. Maybe I should say most, as some of the current technology and equipment may avoid certain pitfalls. Regardless, the Springfield barrels were straightened two or three times during the manufacturing process using a device that looks like a ship's wheel with two hooks hanging down.

The barrel is hung in the hooks and rotated while the operator looks through the barrel at a back lite plumb line. He applies force with the wheel at a point of bend and over-bends the barrel so when it springs back it will retain the proper bend. I have a picture of one but can't find it. It was taken at the Savage factory, and Savage is known for accurate barrels.

One of the most famous barrel makers of all time used to straighten his barrels after every taper pass. One of his barrels will triple the value of a rifle instantly.

People who say they don't shoot bent barrels have never tapered a blank or made a barrel. Some bent barrels are very accurate.

ahhhhh, thats my big secret, i do the same way the guys at SA and RIA did..
as long as its not kinked, it can be done.
i straightened a Ruger 77 barrel that was bent 6 inches down 3 inches left.
was on an ATV that rolled down a mountain.
was planning on replacing the barrel, but tried it. it worked great, shoots well, and holds zero.
iv straightened a few 03, 17, and more M1 Carbine barrels then i can remember.
all but a couple turned out good.

these are simple rifle, made so simple men could repair them..

I do it with a couple of V blocks on a 50 ton KRW H frame press.
