P14 Replacement Barrels

So did anyone make a barrel in the end?

Exporting barrels requires an export license in the USA. There's nothing impossible about it other than the fact that many if not most manufacturers don't want to bother with the hassles and paperwork even though they all hold the DDTC registrations because they are forced to do so by the Federal Government. Small importer/exporters like myself bite the bullet and pay for the very expensive DDTC registration on a yearly basis so that we CAN get the job done. The service costs a lot of money so the smart way to do it is in bulk. A one-off isn't cost effective at all. I just shipped nine new barrels, (not P'14), that leave for Canada by air freight tomorrow via my forwarder in Boston so it can be done.

Military surplus barrels are not importable to the USA at this time but those of us in the trade are working to get that changed now that we have a firearms friendly administration. I'll be at the NRA Annual Meetings late this week with a laundry list of things that need to be brought to the attention of the new administration. Never say never. It's a very long time.

I can't add to Bruce In Oz's message about the P14/M17 Barrel being locally manufactured. Haven't come across any stocks of said trial. A couple of local smiths are able to produce a profile same as original. Depending on your time and patience, it will get done this decade at least.

The most helpful suggestion that I have is contact Tom at TBone Shipwrighting in Sydney. Tom's adverts appear regularly on these pages and he's a moderator on the Lee Enfield Forum. Tom often has those barrels come in from the US, usually twice annually. Probably a better bet than getting one made up.
